Rider's
Corner
Outdoor Track and Trail visited JB Motocross
this past weekend. This facility consists of a
motocross track and a kids track. JB Motocross
was easy to find following the directions
provided by Google Maps. They have a sign at the
turn into the entrance to let you know you are
there since you can't see the track from the
main road. After signing in we found ample
parking right next to the track for easy viewing
when taking our prolonged rest breaks. You old
guys know what we're talking about. The track
soil consisted of (on our visit) red Alabama
clay dirt with some wood chips and saw dust in
some of the corners. It was dry when we were
there so it was hard pack. The track was not
prepped or watered the day we visited. The main
track is ok for beginner to slower riders. A
couple of the doubles require a good bit of
speed to hit and there are a couple triple jumps
that are challenging. There is no elevation
change to speak of. Doubles, triples, tables,
and some rollers all contributed to a good
variety of obstacles on the track. The track is
in a fairly small field with a tight layout so
lap times are pretty low depending on how fast
you ride. This is good for spectators though, as
they can see nearly the entire track. There is a
small set of bleachers for watching as well. The
kid's track looked like it would be ideal for
youngsters to get some practice on a track with
some easy obstacles. A Port-a-John restroom was
on site for a bathroom break. If you ride on a
hot day bring a tent as there is no shade in the
parking area. Many restaurants and gas stations
are only a minute away from the track so you can
get those necessities easily. At least we didn't
have to learn the track while getting passed
left and right. There were only about 10 other
riders using the track on the day we visited. If
you live near Huntsville, AL, JB Motocross should be on your list of places to
ride. Don't take our word for it though. Give it
a try! - Editor
